Project Description

From the Cunene River to the faucet in Chitado, Cunene is getting a new water supply system.

The system includes water collection, conveyance, treatment, storage, and distribution, ensuring 100% water supply coverage for the urban and rural populations of the Chitado Municipality.

It is designed for a peak flow rate of 3,518 m³/day and is intended to serve an estimated population of 50,315 residents through 2,575 supply points, including household connections, yard faucets, and public drinking fountains.

The scope of the system includes:

• Raw water intake and conveyance works: construction of the intake structure on the Cunene River;
• Raw water conveyance pipeline: 7 km of DN400 ductile iron pipeline;
• Pumping systems: installation of three raw water electric pumps, each with a capacity of 222 m³/h;
• Treated water pumping station: equipped with centrifugal pumps with a capacity of 150 m³/h;
• Water Treatment Plant (WTP): with a treatment capacity of 200 m³/h;
• Treated water storage: total capacity of 2,000 m³, distributed across two storage tanks, and an elevated reservoir connected to the local distribution center;
• Distribution network: including 2,575 household connections and 59 public fountains.
