The project to build the Barra do Dande Ocean Terminal is considered strategic and of national interest; it is an integral part of the objectives set forth in the National Development Plan 2018–2022, and is regarded as the primary platform for ensuring the storage and reception of petroleum products for the country’s strategic, security, and operational reserves.

The objective of the project’s Environmental Impact Study was to identify, characterize, and assess the environmental impacts resulting from construction, operation, and decommissioning, in order to establish measures to minimize significant negative impacts and ensure that the project is well integrated into its environmental context.
