The project for the Huíla Higher Institute of Educational Sciences (ISCED) involves the comprehensive restoration of the existing historic building and the thoughtful expansion of the campus through the construction of a new academic and administrative building. The proposal preserves the built heritage of ISCED—a landmark in teacher education in Angola—while ensuring that it is adapted to the contemporary demands of higher education.

The new building, located along the main urban axis, is organized into two complementary volumes that frame a central plaza, strengthening the connection between the campus and the city of Lubango. The complex also includes landscaping, a redesign of the promenade, parking areas, and support for sports facilities.

The project develops architectural solutions tailored to Huíla’s temperate subtropical climate, prioritizing natural ventilation, shading, passive environmental comfort, and energy efficiency. The strategy is divided into two phases—rehabilitation and expansion—which can be carried out in parallel or in stages.

The project aims to provide ISCED with modern teaching facilities, expanding its capacity to accommodate the projected academic growth—estimated at approximately 5,000 students—and ensuring the continuity of its educational mission through functional, durable, and low-maintenance spaces.
