Project Description

The drilling project in Block 47 was designed to assess the hydrocarbon potential of a previously unexplored geological area. The project is subject to rigorous environmental and operational oversight to ensure compliance with Angola’s legislative framework, international environmental conventions, and recognized best practices in offshore hydrocarbon development.

Block 47 covers approximately 2,200 km² in Angolan offshore waters, in the ultra-deep-water region, approximately 200 km west of the mouth of the Congo River. The water depths throughout the block range from 2,500 to 3,600 meters.

The objective of the Project’s Environmental and Social Impact Study was to identify, characterize, and assess the environmental impacts resulting from the installation and drilling phases, in order to establish measures to minimize significant negative impacts, thereby ensuring a sound environmental framework for the project.
